Homo madeirensis

Olá a todos,

Sou Raquel, natural de Alicante (Espanha). Quando eu comecei a estudar Biologia, não sabia o que eu gostava, mas à medida que os cursos passavam, eu percebi que eu realmente gostava da conservação do meio ambiente e da biodiversidade. Quando eu fiz as prácticas para o cumplimento do acordo CITES (Convenção sobre o Comércio Internacional de Espécies Ameaçadas de Fauna e Flora Selvagens) senti em meu lugar, descobri que, para  mim, o mais importante é trabalhar em algo que contribua para um bem na naturaleza.

Outra parte importante foi que, há 4 anos, participei, por casualidade, de um voluntário da floresta de 10 dias em uma área natural de Alicante. Foi uma experiência inesquecível, senti em conexão com a natureza, aprendi com muitas pessoas e acordei em mim o interesse pela natureza e sua preservação. Foi tão importante para mim que acabei atendendo a cada verão desde então e até os dois últimos trabalhavam como monitor lá. E foi também esse o trabalho para o qual tive que assumir o meu lado mais criativo em termos de realização de atividades na natureza, descobrindo a importância da educação ambiental.

Depois, sem saber quando e como, o grupo das aves ficou muito interessado. E eu comecei a documentar, a aprender sobre eles, a participar de anigagems e projetos relacionados e a fazer cursos para me informar. Muitas espécies são bastante semelhantes entre Alicante e Madeira, a diferença está na subespécie.

Um dia, eu já estava terminando biología, alguém me falou sobre a existência do programa Erasmus + Aitana. Fiquei interessado, então visitei o site. Houve dois dias para terminar o prazo e eu disse para mim, eu tenho que tentar. Eu vi a vaga para ajudar no projeto LuminAves na Madeira e pensei que essa vaga deve ser minha. E depois de muitos meses sem novidades, recebi a mensagem para fazer a entrevista e definitivamente conseguir o lugar.

E aqui estou agora, no escritório de Spea Madeira, realizando estágios no projeto Lumin Aves. Muito feliz por finalmente ter aprendido e contribuído para o mundo das aves e sua conservação :).

Hi everybody,

I'm Raquel, I'm from Alicante (Spain). When I started studying Biology, I did not know what exactly I liked, but as the courses passed, I realized that I really liked the conservation of the environment and biodiversity. When I did the practices for the fulfillment of the CITES agreement (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) I felt in my place, I discovered that for me the most important thing is to work on something that contributes to a good on the nature.

Another important part was that 4 years ago I attended, by chance, a 10-day forest volunteer in a natural area of ​​Alicante. It was an unforgettable experience, I felt in connection with nature, I learned from many people and woke up in me that interest in nature and its preservation. It was so important to me that I ended up attending every summer since then and even the last two worked as a monitor there. And it was that work also for which I had to take my more creative side in terms of carrying out activities in nature, discovering the importance of environmental education.

Afterwards, without knowing when and how, the group of birds became very interested to me. And I started to document, to learn about them, to attend banding and related projects and to take courses to inform me. Many species are quite similar between Alicante and Madeira, the difference is in the subspecies.

One day, I was already finishing the university, someone told me about the existence of the Erasmus + Aitana program. I was interested, so look at the website. There were two days to finish the term and I said to myself, I have to try. I saw the square to help in the LuminAves project in Madeira and I thought, that has to be mine. And after many months without news, I received the message to conduct the interview and definitely get the place.

And here I am now, in the office of Spea Madeira, doing internships in the Lumin Aves project. Very happy to have finally come to learn and contribute to the world of birds and their conservation :).
