I Censo da Galinhola

Olá a todos, 

Há muito tempo que não escrevo nada aqui. Por isso, agora tenho muitas coisas a dizer. 

Em primeiro lugar, a 21 de Março voltei a Itália, apenas por cinco dias. Por que voltei a Itália? Não, não por causa de uma espécie de" saudade ", mas porque nesse dia tinha um evento importante para participar, a defesa da minha tese. 

Mas, de volta à Madeira havia à minha espera uma semana especial para o meu serviço de voluntariado na Spea. Na semana passada, a Spea esteve envolvida na organização do "I Censo da Galinhola" e, após dias de muito trabalho conseguimos organizar, da melhor forma, este importante evento. Esta é a primeira vez que ocorre um evento como este, e a adesão foi grande: 52 voluntários, especialmente provenientes de Portugal Continental mas também de países estrangeiros, que se juntaram ao censo. Realizámos diversas actividades no âmbito do "Censo da Galinhola", sendo a mais relevante o ponto de contagem, onde pretendemos observar ou ouvir a vocalização desta espécie, para a monitorização da sua presença na ilha e do impacto das linhas eléctricas sobre a sua população. O primeiro dia foi de formação, em que a Isabel e a Cátia explicaram aos voluntários as linhas de orientação do projecto e as características desta espécie, Scolopax rusticola. No mesmo dia, procuraram-se as aves no campo, tendo sido um sucesso para mim: no nosso grupo observámos cerca de vinte indivíduos de galinhola e pudemos ouvir o seu som. Ok! Disse para mim "É muito fácil: temos que ficar duas horas no mesmo ponto, a contar sempre que vemos a galinhola." Infelizmente, durante os 3 dias seguintes, em que estive nos pontos de contagem com o Manuel e o Tiago, não vi nenhuma galinhola, nem a voar nem a cantar para nós. Essa é a razão pela qual fui nomeado, oficialmente "Galinhola Man 2010" pelo Rafael, um voluntário espanhol com uma grande energia positiva. Obrigado Rafa! Esta é outra razão pela qual a semana passada, foi especial: conheci imensa gente nova, e alguns desses voluntários são muito divertidos e alegres! Sim, não é uma boa ideia esquecer alguém aqui, mas é difícil para mim recordar os nomes de todos os 52 voluntários. É claro que eu quero me lembrar do Manuel, não é fácil descrever este rapaz: perspicaz, independente, muito engraçado, tudo isto na mesma pessoa. 

Além disso, quero mencionar o comportamento amigável desses rapazes: Tiago "um amigo", Adérito "o rosto sorridente contagioso", João Tiago (gostei muito do seu estilo), Marta "a louca", Miguel, Carla, Hugo e Joana. Oh não! Esqueci-me de  todos os outros ... Não, estou a brincar, eu quero dizer "Olá" ou "Arrivederci" também para o Felipe e a Teresa, Ricardo "hey man", Marisa, Maria, Zara (uma nova amiga na Madeira, wow), Patricia "a veterinária", Verónica, António, Mónica "la milanese", Fabia, Thijs "o ornitólogo Holandês", Bruno, Joel, Rui, e a observadora de baleias (infelizmente eu não sei o nome dela, mas se tens uma foto comigo, por favor envia-me :-)). Eu tenho a certeza que acabei esquecendo alguém, mas neste momento não me lembro de mais ninguém. Desculpem-me. 

Queria dizer-lhes "Obrigado pela vossa ajuda, realmente apreciei a vossa presença amiga. Gostaria de vê-los outra vez. Mantenham contacto ".

It’s a lot of time that I don’t write anything here. So, now I have so much things to tell you. First of all, on 21th March I came back to Italy, just for five days. Why did I come back to Italy? No, not ‘cause of a sort of “saudade”, but because just in that days I had an important event to join it, my degree. But, coming back to Madeira very soon, there was to expect me a special week for my voluntary service at Spea. Indeed, last week Spea was involved in the organization of the “I Censo da Galinhola”, and they were full of working days to manage at the best way this important event. This is the first time for an event like this, and the participation to that is been great: 52 volunteers, especially coming from the Mainland Portugal but also from foreign countries joined to the censo. We realized different activities within “the censo of galinhola”: the most important one is been the point counts to observe or listen to the song of this species, to monitoring its presence on the island and the impact of electric lines about that. The first day was the training one, in which Isabel and Catia explained to the volunteers the lead lines of the project and the features of this species, Scolopax rusticola .In the same day, we tried to search the birds on the field and it was of success for me: the other guys and I observed about twenty times some individuals of galinhola and we could listen to their song. Ok, I said, talking to myself, it’s very easy: you have to stay two hours in the same point, counting any time you see the woodcock. Unfortunately, the 3 days after in which I was at the count point with Manuel and Tiago, we didn’t see any woodcock, neither flying nor singing for us. That’s the reason I was officially appointed “Galinhola Man 2010” by Rafael, a Spanish volunteer with a great positive energy. Thank you Rafa! This is another reason why last week’s been special: I met a lot of new people, and some of these guys are very funny and joyful to stay together. Yes, it’s not a good idea to forget someone here, but it’s difficult for me to remember the names of all the 52 volunteers. Of course I want to remember Manuel, it’s not easy to describe this guy: acute, independent, very funny, all of this in the same person. Also, I want to mention for the friendly behaviour of these guys: Tiago “a friend”, Aderito “the contagious smiling face”, Joao Tiago (I like so much his style), Marta “the crazy”, Miguel, Carla, Hugo and Juanna. Oh no, I forget all the other ones… No, I’m joking, I want to say hello or “arrivederci” also to Felipe and Teresa, Ricardo “hey man”, Marisa, Maria, Zara (a new friend in Madeira, wow), Patricia “the veterinary”, Veronica, Antonio, Monica “la milanese”, Fabia, Tjis “the Ducth ornithologist”, Bruno, Joel, Rui, and the whale watching girl (unfortunately I don’t know her name, but you have a pic of me, please send it to me :-) ). I’m sure that I forgot somebody, but just in this moment I don’t remember other guys. Apologize for this. I want to say these guys “Thank you for your help, I really appreciated your friendly presence. I would like to see you another time. Keep in touch”.
