This week I decided to interview Raquel, a personal friend
and collaborator with SPEA Madeira.

Good
afternoon, Rachel, how are you?
-
Good afternoon, well, a little intrigued by the
interview (laughs).
-
Don't
worry, it's going to be very easy (laughs), first of all I'd like you to talk a
Little bit about yourself.
-
Talking about me? ... Well, I have a degree in
marine biology by the University of Santiago de Compostela, and I’ve always
been interested in the sea and nature, so I decided to do that degree. I currently
work in the Madeira Ocean Observatory (OOM-ARDITI) with a research contract.
-
And about
what is your investigation?
-
It consists of the study of the populations of
small pelagics of Madeira, for that reason i’m working as observer in boats of “ruama”.
-
- It
sounds very interesting.
-
It is (laughs)
-
And how
long have you been living in Madeira?
-
More less seven months.
-
And what
do you think about the island?
-
That’s a good question, it’s a quite place,
maybe too much, i think that it is a perfect place for retired people (laughs),
the acces sometimes are a little bit difficult, but it has a special atmosfere
which is amazing.
-
So, do
you like to get older here?
-
(meditate one moment) Telling you the truth, NO
(laughs).
-
And when
did your love for birds start?
-
I like that you raise that question, mi fondness
for birds started some many years ago, when I started to went in boat, I
founded very interisting the birds behaviour, let's say that was the moment
when I got bitten by the birdwatching bug.
-
I suppose
that like all the birds lovers, do you have your favourite specie, which it is?
-
In general I found all amazing, but if i have to
chose, no doubt, it will be the Common Tern.
-
Why?
-
Because for me, this bird represents perfectly
both, the sea and the fishing, in fact the fishermen used it tho know where
there was the good places for fishing, and due to my job is related with this
work, I think I have a preference for it.
-
Talking
about SPEA Madeira, i would like to know how do you meet us.
-
Before come to Madeira I knew SPEA in the
continent and i love its work, so when I came here I decided to look for a
representation in the island to collaborate with them.
-
What do
you think about the work that we do?
-
I consider that you carry out a very important
work, which is necessary in an island like this, I have been in many countries
and no doubt, this is the ornithological association that I like most, because
you are always trying to collaborate with regular people, which in my opinion
is an essential tool for the conservation of the enviroment.
-
How many
time have you collaborate with us?
-
Let me think, because I have collaborate in so
much that I’ve lost the count (laughs), but more less 7, without count RAM days
or workshops.
-
Why you
decided to collaborate with us?
-
As I tell you before I love birds, and i want to
meet people with the same hobby.
-
What do
you like most about SPEA Madeira?
-
Undoubtedly that they are very welcoming with
tourists, volunteers and occasional collaborators, and also the greats
opportunities that they offer.
-
And what
do you like least?
-
There isn’t nothing that i don’t like about SPEA
Madeira
-
Come on,
there is familiarity (laughs)
-
It’s true, I can’t say nothing bad, I can only
think in a couple of suggestions, but nothing negative.
-
We are
always opened to receive suggestions, so, go ahead.
-
Ok, I think that out of social media you should
do more publicity of yours activities, because it will be very useful for
people which doesn’t know you and doesn’t have Facebook like me. And well, I
remember that when I arrive you did some workshops and country trips organized
by volunteers, so you should to get cracking
(laughs)
-
I will
try it (laughs), anything else?
-
No, just that, I think this summer would be very
interesting to do some activities or field trips to know a little bit more
about the habitat of the furabardos.
-
Thanks, I’m
sure that this information will be very useful in the future. Changing of
topic, what do you think about our blog?.
-
Well, it’s not for to suck up to you (laughs) but,
since Jesús and you are here I see it more active than ever, I find it very
dynamic, interesting and fun.
-
It must
be the andalusian charm.

conclude, what do you think about the interview?
-
I found it quite entertaining, although you
should improve the part of make me come
to your house and receive me in pyjamas (laughs).

decidi entrevistar a Raquel, amiga e colaboradora freqüente de SPEA Madeira.

Boa tarde Raquel, tudo bem?
-
Boa
tarde, bem, um pouco intrigada com a entrevista (risos)
-
Não se preocupe, vai ser muito fácil. Primeiro,
eu gostaria que fala-se sobre você
-
Sou
licenciada em biología marinha pela Universidade de Santiago de Compostela,
sempre tenho estado interessada pelo mar e natureza. Atualmente trabalho no
Observatrio Oceânico na Madeira (OOM-ARDITI) com um contrato de investigação.
-
E qual é a sua investigação?
-
Consiste
no estudo e caracterização de pequenos peixes pelágicos (Chicharro, Cavala e
Sardinha) da Madeira, portanto embarco como observadora em barcos da
"Ruama".
-
Parece
muito interessante.
-
O é (risos)
-
Desde quando moras na Madeira?
-
Há 7 meses.
-
E o que pensas da ilha?
-
Boa
questão, eu penso que é um lugar muito tranquilo, talvez demais, é perfeito
para os reformados (risos), talvez os acessos a determinadas áreas são um pouco
difícil, mas tem um encanto especial.
-
Então, gostaria de envelhecer aqui?
-
(Medita
um momento) A verdade é que não (risos).
-
E quando començo a sua paixão pelas aves?
-
Eu
gosto de que faças esta questão, a mina predileção pelas aves començou há
alguns anos, penso que o comportamento das aves marinhas é muito interessante.
-
Imagino que, como a maioria dos
observadores de aves, terás a tua favorita, não?
-
Em
geral todas fascinam-me, mas se tivesse que escolher um, seria o Garajau.
-
Por que?
-
Porque
para mim o esta ave representa o mar e pesca, de fato, os pescadores usam-lo
como um indicador para saber os bons locais de interesse para pescar, e como o
meu trabalho tem a ver com a pesca, tenho predileção por ele.
-
Como conheceste a SPEA Madeira?
-
Antes
de chegar a Madeira já conhecia a divisão da SPEA no continente, por isso antes
de vir aquí pesquisei se havia uma representação para colaborar com eles.
-
Que pensas do trabalho que fazemos na
região?
-
Penso
que fazem um trabalho muito importante e necessário na uma ilha como esta. Eu
tenho estado no vários países é cetamente é a associação ornitológica que gosto
mais, porque sempre tentam trabalhar com todo o mundo o que na minha opinião é
uma ferramenta essencial para a conservação ambiental
-
Em quantas atividades tens participado?
-
Deixa-me
pensar, porque tenho participado em tantas que perdi a conta, mas pelo menos
cerca de 7, sem contar os dias RAM e vários workshops.
-
Por que decidiste participar connosco?
-
Como
disse antes, gosto muito das aves e queria conhecer pessoas com os interessadas
nos mesmos temas.
-
Então, o que mais gostas da SPEA Madeira?
-
Gosto
muito que são abertos com as pessoas de fora, como os turistas, voluntarios e
colaboradores ocasionais e as grandes oportunidades que ofereceis.
-
E o que
menos?
-
Não
há nada que não goste da SPEA Madeira.
-
Vamos lá, há confiança (risos)
-
Realmente,
eu não posso dizer nada negativo, eu só penso em um par de sugestões, mas nada
negativo.
-
Gostamos
de receber sugestões.
-
Está
bem, a minha opinão é que fora das redes sociais poderias fazer mais
publicidade, já que para as pessoas que não usam Facebook seria muito útil. E
recordo que quando cheguei a ilha estavam-se fazendo workshops e visitas o
campo muito interessantes organizadas por os voluntarios, então deveriam estar
”manos a la obra” (expressão espanhola para começar alguma coisa)(risos)

Vou fazer tudo o que esteja na minha mão
(risos), outra coisa mais?
-
Não,
só que penso que este verão seria interessante fazer algumas atividades o
saídas de campo para conhecer um pouco mais o habitat do furabardos.
-

Mudando de assunto, o que você pensa do nosso blog?
-
Bem,
não é por ser os meus amigos (risos), mas desde que Jesús e tu estão aquí esta
mais ativo que nunca, parece-me muito dinâmico, interessante e divertido.

Tem que ser o carisma da Andaluzia (risos)

Para terminar, o que pensas da entrevista?
-
Tem
sido muito divertida, mais penso que tens que melhorar isso de fazer-me vir a
tua morada e receber-me em pijama (risos)
