Procurando os Ninhos

One of my tasks within the Life Furabardos project is the search for active nests of this Fura-bardos. In this post I will tell you a little more about how we carry out such a search.

This year we want to check how last year's fires affected to the specie, so we move to the burned territories where we are aware of the presence of the species, due to that we found nests of previous years.

Once there we prospected the area trying to find the old nest to see how severe the fire was.
As soon as we arrived a magnificent specimen of common buzzard (Buteo buteo) that decides to greet us.

After observing our friend we enter in the territory of the fura-bardos, once in this, we try to identify the species of invasive plants present in the area.

But finding a new nest is not easy, so the first thing we do is look for signs of the presence of the Fura-bardos. In this case feces and rest of prey. We were finding the different signs of presence, which little by little we were getting closer to our objective.

And voilà, we finally find the nest of this year 😃, also if we look closely we can see the tail of the female inside the nest.

So we not only find an active nest, that was my first contact with the Fura-bardos and not the last one, but that story will tell you later 😉

Uma das minhas tarefas dentro do projeto Life Fura-bardos é buscar ninhos ativos desta espécie. No próximo post vou falar um pouco mais sobre como realizar a pesquisa.

Este ano, queremos ver como o fogo afetou no ano passado para furabardos.

Primeiro, vamos a os territórios queimados onde temos um registro da presença da espécie.

Depois de ver o nosso amigo, movemos-nos para o território da furabardos, uma vez neste, tentamos de identificar as espécies de plantas invasoras presentes na área.

Mas encontrar um novo ninho não é tão fácil, por isso a primeira coisa que fazemos é procurar sinais da presença de furabardos. Neste caso, fezes e desplumadouros, pouco a pouco estávamos mais perto de nosso objetivo.

E voilà, nós finalmente encontramos o ninho deste ano 😃 também se olharmos com atenção, podemos ver a cauda da fêmea no ninho.

Assim, não só encontramos um ninho ativo, se não, ele foi meu primeiro contato com o Fura-bardos mas não o último 😉
