Na semana de 28 de Março a 2 de Abril decorreu o primeiro "Censo da Galinhola", organizado pela SPEA. Durante esta semana, cerca de 50 voluntários estiveram a trabalhar com a SPEA para determinar a abundancia desta ave na região. Todos os voluntários ficaram juntos numa casa de montanha durante uma semana.
A Galinhola é classificada como ave vulnerável na ilha da Madeira. Para contar galinholas os voluntários foram distribuídos em pontos estratégicos designados pela SPEA. Esta contagem foi feita durante os horários de maior incidência desta ave, uma hora antes do pôr do sol até uma hora depois. Algumas manhãs, fizemos caminhadas nas montanhas ou actividades no Funchal. Foi uma semana difícil, dormindo pouco e com muito frio, mas realmente, a ocasião merecia.
Mas nem tudo era frio e trabalho.. Tivemos muitos bons momentos, graças a todos os voluntários que vieram! Grandes pessoas e muita diversão! Muitos risos na carrinha, saída à noite para o pub local, refeições tradicionais, como a "espetada”, conversas em frente à lareira, aranhas nos quartos com companheiros gritarem e levantarem-se assustados ;) ou caldo compartilhado para combater o frio!

The week from 28 of March to 2 of April was the first “Censo da Galinhola” organized by SPEA. During this week, around of 50 volunteers were working with SPEA to get to locate the point where the bird moves. All volunteers were living together in a mountain house during the week.
The galinhola is classified as a vulnerable bird on the island of Madeira. To count galinhola the volunteers were distributed at strategic points that had appointed SPEA. The count of Galinhola was during the hours of more incidence of this bird, one hour before sunset and one houre after. Some mornings, we did walks in the mountains or activities in Funchal. It was a hard week, sleeping little and very cold but really, the occasion deserved it.
But not everything was cold and work..We had very many good times thanks to all the volunteers who came! Great people and great fun! Lots of laughter in the van, going out at night to the village pub, traditional meals like "espetada", talk time around the fire, spiders in the rooms that make your roommates scream and get up scared ;) or share cups of broth to combat the cold!!!
