All you need is Science

Esta semana passada foi muito especial para qualquer amante da ciência e para todos aqueles que aspiram a fazer parte dela. Estou falando sobre a Semana Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia, idéia que surgiu como objetivo de chamar a atenção dá opinião pública à cultura científica. 

Desde 1998, entre 20 e 26 de Novembro é comemorado em Portugal uma série de eventos em que vários centros de pesquisa, Instituições de ensino superior, Museus e Escolas são envolvidas. Na Madeira este evento teve lugar na passada quarta-feira, "Ciência no Mercado" é promovido pela ARDITI (Agência para o Desenvolvimento Regional da Investigação, Tecnologia e Inovação) e consistiu numa exposição dos vários projectos de investigação em curso neste momento na região. 

Durante toda a tarde qualquer pessoa que visitou a Praça do Peixe no Mercado dos Lavradores de Funchal, teve a oportunidade de experimentar comandar pequenos robôs, que estavam expostos, conhecer os estudos que estão a desenvolver para promover a valorização do ouriço-do-mar na Madeira, souber mais das propriedades tecnológicas das algas e até degustar produtos feitos com elas (minha secção favorita, obviamente!). Houve ainda espaço para pensar sobre o futuro com o Serviço de Psicologia da Universidade da Madeira. Claro, que nos também nos, SPEA estivemos lá para apresentar o projeto Luminaves e mostrar os aparelhos com que trabalhamos para fazer os censos.

Em definitiva, foi uma mostra da Ciência e Tecnologia do que se faz na Região, onde todos puderam participar e interagir em muitos ateliers e compreender um pouco mais do as vezes misterioso mundo da Ciência.

Last week was very special for any lover of science and for anyone who aspire to be part of it. I'm talking about the National Science and Technology Week, an idea that came up with the objective of getting the public's attention to scientific culture. Since 1998, between 20th and 26th of November a serie of events are celebrated in Portugal, several research centers, higher education institutions, museums and schools are involved celebrated in them. In Madeira this event took place last Wednesday, "Science in the Market" is promoted by ARDITI (Agency for Regional Development of Research, Technology and Innovation) and consisted of an exhibition of the various research projects currently underway in the region. 

During the whole afternoon, anyone who visited Praça do Peiçe in the Mercado dos Lavradores in Funchal had the opportunity to try out small robots that were exposed, to know the studies that are developing to promote the valuation of the sea urchin in Madeira, learn more about the technological properties of seaweed and even taste products made with them (my favorite section, obviously!). There was still spot to think about Our own future with the Psychology Service of the University of Madeira. Of course, we SPEA Madeira, were also there to present Luminaves project and show the equipment with which we work in our censuses.

In short, it was a Science and Technology show about what is happening in the Region, where everyone could participate and interact in many workshops and understand a little more of the sometimes mysterious world of Science.
