Bem-haja a todos, o meu nome é Manuel Contreras, ao
longo dos próximos meses irei estagiar na SPEA. Esta oportunidade surge através
do programa curricular do curso técnico superior em Guias de Natureza
ministrado pela Universidade da Madeira. Neste momento sou finalista deste
mesmo curso e foi ao longo do mesmo que despertei o interesse pelas
aves.
Interessar-me por aves foi como descobrir um “novo
mundo” que sempre existiu. A observação no meio natural, vocalizações, tipos de
voos, hábitos, morfologia, prenderam a minha atenção. O estágio na SPEA irá
contribuir para o meu crescimento pessoal e profissional no âmbito de
observação de aves, no estudo dos hábitos, particularidades, e essencialmente, na
ajuda para à conservação das aves, muitas vezes subestimado pela maioria da
população (Reconheço que eu próprio já subestimei).
Nos próximos meses o meu trabalho na SPEA irá incidir maioritariamente na vertente marinha, o que vem mesmo a calhar. Adoro o
mar, pratico mergulho recreativo regularmente e conheço os desafios que a fauna
marinha enfrenta devido ao nosso comportamento irresponsável. Prestarei apoio nos projetos LIFE4BEST
Seabird Macaronesian Sound, INTERREG EElabs e INTERREG OcenLit (Brevemente
publicarei mais a falar sobre estes projetos).
Ainda tenho muito para aprender sobre as aves, pelo
que acredito que esta experiência será enriquecedora e gratificante.

Hello everyone, my name is Manuel
Contreras, over the next few months I will be doing an internship at SPEA.This
opportunity had arisen through the curricular program of the higher technical
course in Nature Guides taught by the University of Madeira. I am currently a
final year student and it was during the course that I awakened my interest in
birds.
My interest in birds was as if I was
discovering a “new world” that has always existed. The observation in the natural environment, vocalizations, types of flights, habits, morphology,
caught my attention. The internship at SPEA will contribute to my personal and
professional growth in the field of bird watching, in the study of habits,
peculiarities, and essentially, in helping to conserve birds, often
underestimated by most of the population (I admit that I have underestimated it
myself).
In the coming months, my work at SPEA
will focus mainly on the marine aspect, which comes in handy. I love the sea,
practice recreational diving regularly and I know the challenges that the
marine fauna faces due to our irresponsible behavior. I will provide support in
the projects LIFE4BEST Seabird Macaronesian Sound, INTERREG EElabs, and
INTERREG OcenLit (I will post more about these projects soon).
I still have a lot to learn about
birds, so I believe this experience will be enriching and rewarding.
