Olá SPEA Madeira! 😁

Olá, o meu nome é Luísa Rocha e sou estagiária do curso de Guias da Natureza da Universidade da Madeira, na empresa Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo das Aves (SPEA). Eu gosto das aves e o mar. Considero-me uma pessoa curiosa que gosta de aprender. 

Estou feliz por ter escolhido a SPEA como a minha primeira opção de estágio. Embora a Região Autónoma da Madeira (RAM) promover as belas ilhas da Madeira e  Porto Santo como destinos turísticos, há, por trás disso alguém que trabalhe na conservação e na proteção das nossas aves. O trabalho da SPEA na conservação, proteção, salvamento e monitorização das espécies é algo que me inspira profundamente.

Estou entusiasmada com esta nova fase da minha vida e também pela oportunidade de trabalhar com a SPEA. Anseio aprender mais sobre aves, os seus habitats e as boas praticas para proteger estas espécies. Embora o trabalho não se concentre apenas em aves, mas também em morcegos e insetos considero fundamental aumentar a conscientização sobre os perigos a que estes animais frágeis são expostos todos os dias.

Hi, my name is Luísa Rocha and I´m an intern on the Nature Guides course at Universidade da Madeira, in the company Sociedade Portuguesa para o Estudo das Aves (SPEA). I like birds and the sea. I consider myself a curious person who likes to learn.

I´m happy to have chosen SPEA as my first intership option. Although Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM) promotes the beautiful islands of Madeira and Porto Santo as tourist destinations, there´s someone behid this who works  on the conservation and protection of our birds. SPEA's work in the conservation, protection, rescue and monitoring of species is something that deeply inspires me. 

I´m excited about this new phase in my life, and also about the opportunity to work with SPEA. I look foward to learning more about birds, their habitats and good practices to protect this species. Although the work will not only focus on birds, but also bats and insects, I believe it's necessary to spread awareness about the dangers to which these fragile animals are exposed every day.

Infelizmente, é tempo de dizer adeus à SPEA e à Madeira. Diverti-me tanto aqui que é muito difícil sair. Se olhar para este ano, é muito giro a quantidade de coisas que tive de fazer. Do trabalho de campo diurno e noturno à campanha de resgate de aves marinhas e da escrita de blogues à ajuda com os relatórios. Aprecio muito ter estado envolvido em todas estas experiências diferentes, o que tornou o meu tempo aqui muito esclarecedor.

Eu realmente recomendo ser voluntário na SPEA, mesmo que ainda não goste muito das aves. Aprenderá muito e conhecerá pessoas realmente incríveis.

Um grande obrigado à equipa da SPEA por esta oportunidade e pelo trabalho que desenvolvem para conservar a biodiversidade da Madeira. E também obrigado aos meus co-voluntários porque tornaram este ano ainda mais especial❤️

Unfortunately, it’s time to say goodbye to SPEA and Madeira. I had  such a good time here that it’s really hard to leave. If I look back at this year, it’s really cool how many things I got to do. From fieldwork at both day and nighttime to the seabird rescue campaign and from writing blogs to helping with the reports. I really appreciate that I was involved in all these different experiences, it made my time here very insightful.

I really recommend volunteering at SPEA, even if you’re not that into birds already. You will learn a lot and meet really amazing people.

A big thanks to the SPEA team for this opportunity and for the work they do to conserve the biodiversity of Madeira. And also thanks to my co-volunteers because they made this year even more special❤️
