Olá! Sou o Miguel Andrade e vou realizar um voluntariado de dois meses, de setembro a novembro, na SPEA Madeira, ao abrigo do Corpo Europeu de Solidariedade. Durante este período, irei colaborar, entre outras atividades, na Campanha Salve uma Ave Marinha, participando em projetos de sensibilização junto da população e em brigadas noturnas destinadas ao resgate de aves juvenis encandeadas ou desorientadas.
Sou licenciado em Biologia pela Universidade da Madeira e
concluí recentemente o mestrado em Ecologia na Universidade de Coimbra, com uma
dissertação sobre os efeitos do restauro ecológico nos Lepidópteros de uma
floresta endémica das ilhas Galápagos. Realizei trabalho de campo neste
ecossistema insular único e, com os resultados obtidos, procurei compreender a
resposta ecológica a estas intervenções, com a esperança de que estes
conhecimentos possam ser aplicáveis noutros arquipélagos do mundo.
As minhas áreas de interesse em Biologia incluem a zoologia,
botânica e ecologia, com curiosidade por diversos outros ramos da história
natural. Tenho grande vontade de conhecer e estudar a diversidade da nossa ilha
e do Arquipélago e espero vir a trabalhar futuramente na região. Este gosto
pela Biologia vem desde cedo, fruto do contacto com a natureza durante a
infância, e foi crescendo com a experiência da investigação e
do desejo de proteger o nosso património natural.
Espero que, ao longo deste voluntariado, consiga desenvolver
ainda mais as minhas competências como biólogo, enquanto aprendo e desfruto
desta experiência única.
Hello! I’m
Miguel Andrade, and I will be undertaking a two-month volunteer placement, from
September to November, at SPEA Madeira, under the European Solidarity Corps.
During this period, I will be collaborating, among other activities, with the
Save a Seabird Campaign, participating in awareness-raising projects with the
local community and in night brigades aimed at rescuing juvenile birds that are
disoriented.
I hold a bachelor’s
degree in Biology from the University of Madeira and recently completed a
Master’s in Ecology at the University of Coimbra, with a dissertation on the
effects of ecological restoration on Lepidoptera in an endemic forest of the
Galápagos Islands. I carried out fieldwork in this unique island ecosystem and,
with the results obtained, tried to understand the ecological response to these
interventions, hoping that this knowledge could be applied to other
archipelagos around the world.
My areas of
interest in Biology include zoology, botany, and ecology, having curiosity in
various other fields of natural history. I am eager to explore and study the
diversity of our island and the Archipelago, and I hope to work in this area in
the region in the future. My passion for Biology began at an early age,
fostered by my contact with nature during childhood, and has grown through
research experience, and the desire to protect our natural
heritage.
I hope
that, throughout this volunteer, I can further develop my skills as a biologist
while learning from and enjoying this unique experience.
