O final do voo na SPEA Madeira

Olá a todos!

Chegou o momento de encerrar o capítulo da minha jornada de estágio na SPEA.

Ao olhar para trás, vejo um período repleto de aprendizagens, desafios e momentos inesquecíveis. É com nostalgia que me despeço deste estágio que tanto me enriqueceu profissionalmente de uma forma que não esperava.

Durante 12 meses, mergulhei no universo das aves e procurei aprender o máximo possível, tanto sobre estas espécies como sobre os funcionamentos logísticos e burocráticos que projetos de conservação da natureza acarretam.

Curso de Iniciação ao Birdwatching @Ana Amaral

Na maioria do meu tempo, contribuí para a comunicação geral da SPEA e do projeto LIFE Natura@night. Muitos dos meus dias foram passados à frente de um ecrã, escrevendo notícias, comunicados de imprensa, newsletters ou posts para o Facebook, mas informar a audiência sobre as ações da SPEA e ver as suas respostas motivava-me. Além disso, tive a oportunidade de realizar ações de sensibilização em escolas, passando uma mensagem de conservação da biodiversidade às gerações mais novas. Também apoiei candidaturas a apoios financeiros para garantir que as ações de conservação na Madeira possam continuar no futuro.

Participei em várias feiras e eventos onde a loja SPEA esteve montada e ajudei a gerir o stock dos seus produtos, este contacto com a comunidade é muito importante. Sobre o trabalho de campo que apoiei algumas vezes, destaco a amostragem de insetos, pois deslocar-me para áreas protegidas durante a noite para realizar este trabalho permitiu-me uma conexão com a natureza noturna que provavelmente não iria experienciar de outra forma. Ver o céu noturno estrelado da Madeira é maravilhoso! As brigadas de resgate de aves marinhas também foram recompensadoras, principalmente ao ver as aves regatadas a serem devolvidas à natureza.

Este estágio também me fez entender melhor qual o papel da política na conservação da natureza e como é importante o contato com os municípios para implementar ações locais possíveis de ser replicadas, como é o caso das alterações de iluminação que se iniciaram graças ao projeto LIFE Natura@night.

Agradeço de coração a todos os membros da equipa, desde os coordenadores até aos colegas e estagiários/voluntários. À SPEA Madeira, a minha gratidão por me acolher e me proporcionar esta experiência, levo comigo não apenas conhecimento técnico, mas também uma maior compreensão do que é trabalhar numa ONG.

Hello everyone! It's time to close the chapter of my journey as an intern at SPEA. Looking back, I see a period full of learning, challenges and unforgettable moments. It's with nostalgia that I say goodbye to this internship that has enriched me professionally in a way I didn't expect. For 12 months, I immersed myself in the world of birds and tried to learn as much as possible, both about these species and about the logistical and bureaucratic workings that nature conservation projects entail.

Introduction to Birdwatching Course @Ana Amaral

 

Most of my time was spent contributing to the general communication of SPEA and the LIFE Natura@night project. Many of my days were spent in front of a screen, writing news, press releases, newsletters or Facebook posts, but informing the community about SPEA's actions and seeing their feedback kept me motivated. In addition, I had the opportunity to carry out awareness-raising activities in schools, passing on a message of biodiversity conservation to younger generations. I also supported applications for financial support to ensure that conservation actions in Madeira can continue in the future.

I took part in several fairs and events where the SPEA shop was set up and I helped manage the stock of its products, this contact with the community is very important. Regarding the fieldwork I've supported a few times, I'd like to highlight insect sampling, as travelling to protected areas at night to carry out this work has allowed me to connect with nocturnal nature in a way that I probably wouldn't have experienced otherwise. Seeing Madeira's starry night sky is marvellous! The seabird rescue brigades were also rewarding, especially seeing the rescued birds being returned to the wild.

This internship also gave me a better understanding of the importance of politics in nature conservation and how important it is to liaise with municipalities in order to implement local actions that can be replicated, as is the case with the lighting changes that were initiated thanks to the LIFE Natura@night project.

My sincere thanks go to all the members of the team, from the coordinators to my colleagues and trainees/volunteers. To SPEA Madeira, my gratitude for welcoming me and giving me this experience, I take with me not only technical knowledge, but also a greater understanding of what it is like to work in an NGO.
