No trilho das cagarras

 

Etapa essencial para o meu percurso académico foi o estágio na SPEA, dado que, durante o mesmo tive a oportunidade de colaborar em ações de sensibilização sobre os efeitos da poluição luminosa nas aves, ações estas que me demostraram a importância do contacto direto com a população no trabalho de conservação, mostrando que todos podemos ser agentes de conservação.

Participei, no âmbito do projeto LIFE Natura@night para a colocação e retirada de dispositivos GPS e GLS, em Santana. Analisei, também, vídeos de câmaras de identificação de predadores que visitam os ninhos das cagarras inseridas no projeto BESTLIFE2030 STOP Predators. 

Este estágio, apesar de curto, trouxe-me desafios que me ajudaram a crescer, a ganhar mais confiança e a reafirmar a minha paixão pela Biologia. Quero agradecer a toda a equipa da SPEA pela forma como me acolheu e pelo apoio constante ao longo deste mês. Espero que o futuro me volte a cruzar com a SPEA e que possa novamente contribuir para esta missão tão importante.

An essential stage in my academic journey was the internship at SPEA, as during it I had the opportunity to collaborate in awareness-raising activities about the effects of light pollution on birds, which showed me the importance of direct contact with the public in conservation work, demonstrating that we can all be conservation agents.

 

I participated, under the LIFE Natura@night project, in the placement and removal of GPS and GLS devices in Santana. I also analyzed videos from cameras identifying predators that visit the nests of the shearwaters involved in the BESTLIFE2030 STOP Predators project. 

Despite being short, this internship brought me challenges that helped me grow, gain more confidence, and reaffirm my passion for Biology. I want to thank the entire SPEA team for the way they welcomed me and for their constant support throughout this month. I hope that the future will bring me together with SPEA again and that I can contribute to this mission that is so important once more.
