Até à próxima, SPEA!

Termina mais uma etapa do meu voluntariado nesta organização, e saio daqui ainda mais realizada. Tive a oportunidade de participar e coordenar as patrulhas da Campanha “Salve uma Ave Marinha”, conhecer voluntários de várias partes do mundo motivados pela mesma causa e dedicar-me a ações de sensibilização junto dos madeirenses, para que conheçam e colaborem na redução dos impactos da poluição luminosa nas aves marinhas da nossa ilha.

Levo comigo um enorme crescimento pessoal e um conhecimento mais profundo sobre as iniciativas e políticas que procuram mitigar esta problemática para além das fronteiras de Portugal. Este contacto direto com a conservação reforçou o meu sentido de responsabilidade enquanto cidadã e bióloga, mostrando-me o verdadeiro impacto que cada ação pode ter na proteção das espécies mais vulneráveis.

Foi um prazer voltar a colaborar com a equipa da SPEA Madeira, no âmbito do projeto LIFE Natura@night. Num mundo cada vez mais iluminado, proteger a escuridão natural tornou-se essencial para garantir o futuro das espécies que dela dependem. Espero que cada vez mais pessoas se juntem a esta causa, pois mesmo as pequenas ações comunitárias têm um impacto enorme na sobrevivência destas aves.

Levo desta experiência a certeza de que continuarei a contribuir para a proteção da natureza, seja aqui ou além-fronteiras. E, quem sabe, talvez para o ano voltem a contar comigo nas campanhas de resgate.

Another stage of my volunteering in this organization comes to an end, and I leave feeling even more fulfilled. I had the opportunity to participate in and coordinate the patrols of the “Save a Seabird” Campaign, to meet volunteers from various parts of the world motivated by the same cause, and to dedicate myself to awareness-raising actions with the people of Madeira, so that they can understand and collaborate in reducing the impacts of light pollution on the seabirds of our island.

I carry with me enormous personal growth and a deeper understanding of the initiatives and policies that seek to mitigate this issue beyond Portugal’s borders. This direct contact with conservation reinforced my sense of responsibility as a citizen and biologist, showing me the true impact that each action can have on protecting the most vulnerable species.

It was a pleasure to collaborate once again with the SPEA Madeira team, within the scope of the LIFE Natura@night project. In an increasingly illuminated world, protecting natural darkness has become essential to securing the future of the species that depend on it. I hope that more and more people join this cause, as even small community efforts have a huge impact on the survival of these birds.

I leave this experience with the certainty that I will continue contributing to nature conservation, whether here or beyond borders. And, who knows, perhaps next year they will count on me again in the rescue campaigns.
