Estagiária belga na SPEA Madeira

Chamo-me Elodie Crepin, venho do país da cerveja e da chuva (Bélgica). Sou formada em Engenheira Biológica na Universidade de Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, com especialidade em Gestão Florestal e Natural.

A fim de adquirir mais experiência profissional no domínio da conservação da natureza, decidi tirar um ano para viajar e realizar estágios em diferentes organizações. Estas experiências para mim sao uma oportunidade de melhorar os meus conhecimentos no inglês e aprender uma nova língua, o português.

Antes de chegar à Madeira, realizei um estágio de 3 meses em Malta com a organização Nature Trust. Nesta organização, trabalhei na restauração de áreas naturais e mais especificamente na gestão e mitigação de espécies invasoras.

Apartir do início de julho até ao final de novembro, estarei na SPEA durante 5 meses, onde irei contribuir para o projeto LIFE Natura@night no apoio da monitorização das colónias de aves marinhas. 

Sempre me interessei pela natureza e pela conservação dos animais. Estou profundamente convencida de que organizações ambientais como a SPEA têm mais do que nunca um papel a desempenhar na crise ecológica que estamos a enfrentar. Espero de alguma forma contribuir para a criação de um mundo melhor, como a historia do beija-flor, ao trabalhar numa organização de conservação ambiental.

Estou realmente motivada para trabalhar na conservação das aves marinhas e muito grata por fazer parte da equipa nos seguintes meses.

My name is Elodie Crepin, I come from the country of beer and rain (Belgium). I graduated as a Bioengineer at the University of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech with a specialisation in Forest and Nature Management.

In order to acquire more professional experience in the field of nature conservation, I decided to take a year to travel and carry out internships in different organisations. Those experiences are also an opportunity  for me to improve my English language skills and to learn a new language (Portuguese).

Before arriving in Madeira, I carried out an internship of 3 months in Malta with the organisation Nature Trust. With this organisation, I worked on the restoration of natural areas and more specifically on the management and mitigation of invasive species.

From the beginning of July until the end of November, I will be an intern at SPEA for 5 months where I will contribute for the project LIFE Natura@night as a support for the monitoring of the seabird's colonies. This internship in Madeira is for me a unique chance to expand my knowledge and to learn about the conservation of sea birds.

I have always been interested in nature and animal conservation. I am deeply convinced that environmental organisations such as SPEA have more than ever a role to play in the ecological crisis we are facing. I hope in some way to contribute to the creation of a better world, like the hummingbird story, by working in an environmental conservation organisation.

I’m really motivated to work on the conservation of seabirds and really grateful for being part of the team for those 5 following months.
